Slow Fashion from Latin America to the World!

We believe in the limited creation of chosen, unique accessories that are ethically made and help keep our Latin American legacy alive.

Natural Raw Material: Cabuya fiber

Cabuya is the organic raw material used to make our unique collection of Shigra Tote Bags.

This natural fiber comes from the ripe cabuya plant, a cactus similiar to the penco or agave that is widely known across Latin America. However, the cabuya plant is native to Ecuador.

The transformation process of the cabuya fiber into a textile material is long, starting with the harvesting of the leaves. Then, it is schredded, washed and dried in the sun.

When the fiber is dry, it can by dyed also using natural dyes, i.e. plants. Some of them are: chanchi (blue tone), jucuna (yellow tone), chilca (green tone), achiote (orange tone) and walnut (brown tone).

Afterwards, the fiber has to be waxed and combed in order to turn it into threads.

Traditional Handmade Acessories with a Modern Touch

Our Tote Handbags were woven by women who live in remote small communities across the Andean region in Ecuador.

They work from home and weave each bag from begining to the end product. They are happy to bring an extra income to their families and their finished work make them proud!

Cabuya weaving is an art that has been passed on from generation to generation. Our aim is to help mantain this ancient tradition alive by offering high-quality, handmade accessories that have been woven with love and care by artisans with ancestral knowledge. Also, we want to help to empower them through fair wages and employment opportunity. Buy slow fashion that make an impact!
